What Are the Cons of Bagasse?

Bagasse is the fibrous residue left over from the sugar production process and is typically treated as a by-product. In recent years, bagasse has found extensive applications in environmental protection and industrial use. While bagasse excels in eco-friendliness and biodegradability, it also has some drawbacks during usage and processing, specifically as follows:

1. Weak Durability

  2. Limited Load Capacity: Bagasse products may collapse or soften when holding heavy or high-moisture foods.

  1. Bagasse fibers have a certain level of absorbency. Without special treatment, they may soften or leak when in contact with liquids, affecting performance.

3. Limited Heat Resistance

  1. Although bagasse products can generally withstand temperatures up to around 120°C (248°F), they may deform or char in extremely high-temperature environments, such as ovens or grills.

  1. The production process for bagasse products is relatively complex, involving steps such as washing, screening, pulping, and molding, which results in higher costs compared to traditional plastic products.
